A single-product company uses regression to predict one of its factory overhead costs with
materials used as the independent variable. The regression equation is: Y = 542,000 +
0.0000253X. Based on R², management has determined that this model captures a
    significant portion of the relationship.

The behavior of this factory overhead cost with respect to units of finished goods
    produced is

    a.    fixed.
    b. semivariable.
    c.    variable.
    d. not determinable from the provided information.

    Hello Ramy,

It is semi-variable. 542,000 represents the fixed cost. And variable cost is 0.0000253 per unit of  finished good.

thanks Kenneth but the answer was A-Fixed and i think because the coefficient of the variable cost is a very narrow number "0.0000253" so i think that's why the y = fixed cost

Oh I didn't notice that. Yes, I think you're right. It is as good as a fixed cost. :)

Correct answer (a): The slope of the equation is very small, is it equal to zero 0.0000253, is there no effect for the independent variable
