I just finished Part 1 today. I would say your experience depends on how much you studied, and what you studied the most.
Overall, I feel somewhat confident. However, there are around 15-20 multiple choice questions that I believe I may have gotten wrong. The essays were not as hard as I thought they would be. But again, like how others have mentioned, time management is important. I wasn't able to review my answers as in depth as I would have liked. Before I knew it, the time left was almost completely gone. I answered everything, but I felt I could have elaborated a bit more on the essays.
The main problem that I had, as I expected, was that some of the questions would have asked me about topics or concepts I either never really focused on while I was studying or one that my study preparation materials (
Gleim) did not delve too deep into.
Do not take our experiences as evidence for how yours will go. Not to be too harsh, but its true. Just because my essays were fairly simple/straight forward, it does not mean yours will be too. Prepare as much as you believe you need to. As if this was one of the hardest exams you will take. Each exam can have a different level of difficulty. The exam graders take this into consideration in determining your scores.
I also wanted to mention this, since everyone gets updates on this study group sent to their email. I have seen some people bring up the kinds of questions that they got on their exam (i.e. what topics their essays covered). I know you are just trying to help us out, as it definitely made me more hopeful. But I advise you, be careful what you post about the exams online, especially on the IMA's forums. The IMA states the rules in the CMA Handbook (pg. 26) regarding this issue, and it could potentially lead to you not being allowed to become a CMA.
They are probably looking for more serious violations, like if someone memorized a problem, how they answered it, and posted it online. But its better to be safe than sorry.
