Hello everyone,

I am am studying for part 2 of CMA exam right now and planning to take the exam in 21 days.
I am really struggling with studying/understanding essay questions. I wanted to know if the essay questions in the exam will be mostly calculation based or I'll have to type definitions and explanations on concepts as well?
I am studying the essay question on the back of the book but just wanted to know this.

Just finished part II 3 days ago, I spent 3 hours and finished everything. For my experience, assume 365 if it’s not clearly stated, usually the question will tell you. Keep in mind, lots of time ppl use 261 days in the finance world(this have nothing to do with CMA exam though)

So when you took the exam, did it let you answer essay questions after you finished about 70 MCQs? Or it let you go to essay questions immediately?
and I'm worried too much about the essay ones cause I understand the calculation portion somewhat, but if the questions ask like define a topic and explain in detain and say advantage and disadvantage and explain how it affect a firm and all that.. I'm worried about questions like that.

Greetings of the Day,

I would like to help you out with all your doubts regarding taking the CMA Exam.
First of all, in order to move to the essay hour you need to answer atleast 50% correct MCQ questions within first 3 hours of your exam.
Once you submit the answers of all the the MCQ questions you will be allowed to move to the Essay Hour only in case yopu have answered correctly 50% MCQ questions.

Essay hour contains 2 Essays each having around 5-6 sub questions.
Questions in essay are mix of calculations and descriptive type i.e., you will be required to calculate certain ratios as well as answer some short question even you may be required to define the topic and other related such concepts.

Thank you for the information. I'm really struggling with the essay questions cause I feel like I can learn enough and do good in MCQ but the essay questions scare me a lot right now.
i might be able to do the calculation portion but if the question ask to explain a concept or something then I feel like I'll basically have to memorize the whole book to be able to answer the question correctly.

did you finish the CMA exam?

No, you need to submit the entire 100 MC questions and have at least 50% correct to be able to see the essay questions. Yeah, you got the point, don’t gamble cuz you don’t know if the essay questions will be analyzing questions(Adv or Disadv) or calculation questions. When you study, you study everything.
